IAN BUTLER IS PROUD TO WELCOME YOU TO THE HEREFORD AND WORCESTER SHOOTING GROUND AND SHARE WITH YOU THE EXPERIENCE OF CLAY PIGEON SHOOTING.
Ian started his career at a Worcestershire gun making company serving seven years as an apprentice and learning all aspects of Gunsmithing. Having learnt his trade well, he then worked at the prestigious William Powell Gun Makers in Birmingham, one of the most highly esteemed manufacturers of best English shotguns.
Still connected to the Birmingham Gun Trade, Ian is a Guardian at The Birmingham Gun Barrel Proof House, an institute set up by an Act of Parliament in 1813 to test and proof new and used guns for the safety of their users.
His vision for the future in the sport led him to look for a clay pigeon shooting ground and by chance the local ground became available and a whole new venture took off.
Both Westley Richards and William Powell Gun Makers had involvement with the ground from 1946 onwards providing tuition and gun fitting and of course sales of their quality guns.
In 1981, the ground was redeveloped with a Club House offering a Gun Shop, 70 seat restaurant, changing room and disabled facilities.
Some of the most recognised companies KPMG, Tarmac, British Gas and most major banks to name a few, use the facilities of the ground for Corporate Event and Team Building days.
We can now boast a membership of over 500 members and shooters can enjoy sporting, compact, skeet DTL, high tower and more.
There are three full time professional coaches and up to fifteen brought in for larger events.
A number of local schools send their pupils to us to learn the skills of shooting, discipline and respect, one of our former pupils now shoots for Great Britain and has competed and won a medal in the Olympic Games.
We have a purpose built workshop to enable gunsmith skills to be carried out on repairs, gun fitting and alterations.
So you can see, a lot of hard work and determination has made Hereford and Worcester Shooting Ground what it is today, a most successful and highly regarded business.
